Flower Tips for Mothers Day

By admin | May 8, 2008

Here are some great tips for Mothers Day to choose the right flowers and to provide the right care for your flowers so that they could be around for a week or longer.

1. Carnations, daisies and some lilies have a good shelf life for fresh cut flowers.

2. Roses and tulips don’t have a long shelf life. However, to prolong the life of your bouquet, I would change the water daily and place ice cubes in the water a few times a day. You could also keep them in one of your cooler rooms. In order to combat bacterial breakdown, a drop or two of bleach is a good remedy.

3. Don’t clip your roses with a scissor. Use a gardener’s clipper and cut them on an angle.

4. Buy the flowers as close to Mothers Day as possible and try to find an honest florist who will coordinate their delivery with your purchase.

5. The best tip. Buy a plant. Buy a perennial that you’ll have for years to come.
